Green Challenge Roll-Out Event The Impact Downtown Committee will put plans into action in 2010 for their Challenge #3: The Green Challenge. Please join us for the formal introduction of this to be presented by Downtown Community Alliance board member Davis Sanders of RDG Planning & Design. The Challenge will promote young professionals and local business leaders working together for better sustainability in the new year. Show-up to RDG's offices at 301 Grand Ave. at 5:30 for drinks, hors d'houerves and networking. The presentation will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will include Guest Speakers. YPC Kick-Off Celebration Celebrate 2009 and start 2010 off in style at YPC’s Annual Kick-Off Celebration on January 29th at People's Court on Court Avenue Downtown! YPC’s 2009 Annual Report will be on hand to look through 2009 accomplishments, and we will toast to all the events to come in 2010. This is a great time to join or renew your YPC membership and to talk to all the YPC chairs about committees that are of interest to you. The YPC event will be from 5:30-8:00 p.m., and then YPC members get to stay and enjoy (for free thanks to Peoples) the live music from Nevermind, a Nirvana Tribute Band (doors open to the public at 8 p.m. and the show will start by 9 p.m.). The YPC event will have appetizers, drink specials, and prize giveaways.
Legislative Opening Night Reception, The Greater Des Moines Partnership and Affiliate Chambers invite you to the Legislative Opening Night Reception, welcoming the 83rd Iowa General Assembly for the 2010 session. Meet your Iowa Legislators, enjoy great food from restaurants and vendors from around the metro. The reception will be at the Des Moines Social Club, 1408 Locust St., Downtown from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Cost is $15 for Partnership members, $30 for non-members. Greater Des Moines Partnership’s Annual Dinner Featuring a lively and provocative preview of the 2010 political climate: "A View From the Left and the Right" commentated by Paul Begala, Political Analyst & Commentator, CNN and Tucker Carlson, Contributor, Fox News & Senior Fellow, The Cato Institute. The evening begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m., dinner and program at 6:30 p.m. Cost: Center Stage seating is $150 per person or $1,500 for a table of ten; General seating is $125 per person or $1,250 for a table of ten. Forty under 40 Nominations The Business Record is seeking nominations for its 11th annual Forty under 40 awards. Candidates will be judged on both professional accomplishment and involvement with civic organizations. Nominees must be less than 40 years of age as of March 2, 2010 to be considered for recognition. Nominations must be received by noon on Friday, January 8, 2010. Click here for the nomination form. Paint the Town Blue How does Des Moines DU Blue? With the cultural, civic, social and corporate contributions made by 18,000 central Iowa Drake alumni who paint the town blue. Drake University President David and Madeleine Maxwell, the Drake University Board of Trustees, and the Office of Alumni and Development invite you to an evening of celebration on January 15, at 7 p.m., in the Chamberlain Building, 1312 Locust Street, Des Moines. There will be hors d’ouevres and cash bar, live entertainment, and complimentary valet parking. The cost to attend is $20 per person, and a special recent graduate (2005–2009) rate is $10 per person.
