Dec 22 What I'm Into: Pete Jones (Des Moines Register)

Why you should know him: Jones is the new president of Young Professionals Connection. He blogs about life in central Iowa at desmoinesisnotboring.com. (The blog is also featured at dmJuice.com.)

My favorite experience (so far) with YPC was: The initial Do More Village at the first 80/35 Music Festival. Amy Jennings and I planned that area and it was great to see it all come together and see the power of volunteers in Des Moines.

LE MARS, Iowa -- Dozens of young professionals in the Le Mars area are on the GO.

Actually, their new organization is called HYPER -- Helping Young Professionals Energize the Region. But they were inspired by Sioux City Growth Organization, or GO, and share much the same mission: creating a group to provide a social and professional network for young professionals in town, do a variety of service for their community and lend a social richness to life that will help communities retain the young professionals who come to work there.

Jul 9 New academy offers leadership experience (Osceola Sentinel-Tribune)

A new endeavor in Clarke County will make today’s young adults tomorrow’s leaders.

Clarke County Development Corporation is sponsoring a program which will teach young adults how to become a community leader.

The idea for the program came to Bill Trickey, executive director of Development Corporation of Clarke County, after he was nominated for a similar program. He said instead of the same older adults accepting leadership positions, he would like to see more young people take over these roles in the community.
