A quote you hear me say often is that “it’s okay to copy once you have graduated”. I believe we can improve our yp groups by communicating through our experiences. What is working in your community’s yp group? What is not working? Here’s your opportunity to share your experience to help us put together a guide for starting and reenergizing yp groups. |

I agree with sharing ideas. We are actually sharing an idea that you guys in Sioux City did as well as other towns. We are holding a Winter Olympics next Saturday called the Webster City Chillympics. All proceeds go towards a YMCA Scholarship Fund to help families that can't afford to enter their children in Basketball camps, t-ball leagues, swimming passes, etc. There is no such event in Central Iowa so we just started one. There is a lot of HYPE around town about it.

One of SCGO's most successful events in my opinion is the Sculpt Siouxland Celebration held annualy in April. This event recognizes the culmination of one exhibit year for our downtown sculpture display and it introduces the exhibit pieces for the upcoming year. It is a wonderful social opportunity for our members held at the downtown Orpheum Theater. Additionally we have a lot of leaders from the community in attendance so it is also a great networking opportunity. At this event we auction off the previous year's exhibit pieces and a portion of the proceeds go back to SCGO to help us fund the purchase of a permanent display art piece for downtown. The event is always a great deal of fun and it is held for a good cause so our members get twice the benefit from attending. They can feel proud of the Sculpt Siouxland exhibit at this recognizable event and they can share this good time with their friends and fellow members of SCGO.
